FERNANDO DE NORONHA

The Archipelago of Noronha, during all its history, always enchanted mind and hearts. The great navigator Américo Vespúcio, who passed there in the year 1503, fascinated Europe with his descriptions of a "Paradisiacal Island" in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It consists of 21 islands including the main island with 17 square quilometers. In 1832, the biologist Charles Darwin disembarked on the main island (Fernando de Noronha) and got dazzled with the exuberance of the marine life and vegetation.

Fernando de Noronha is located four degrees below the Equator line, 540 km from Pernambuco and 360 km from Rio Grande do Norte. It is the top of a mountain chain of volcanic origin, seated four thousand meters deep. The island offers basic services such as electricity, waste mill, garbage plant, airport and port, public school, day care center, communication system and bank.

Today, after authorized visitation to fragile ambient such as the ones in Fernando de Noronha, it is necessary to estabilish behaviour regulation and special cares, not to cause injuries to the ecosystems. Today, after the development of the tourism trade in the region, the island is authorized to welcome 420 people at a time, to enjoy jeep rides, walkings, boats excursions, fishing and diving.

Monsieur Rocha's Lodge (used in the program) offers rooms with showers, private bathroom and air-conditioning.
