RECIFE
On the XVIth century, Recife appeared as Olinda's suburb. It emancipated in 1710 and is today the biggest commercial and industrial center of the Northwest.
It has a very agitated port and is served by the railway service of the Northwest and by many highways. Its one of the most important cultural centers of the country and has uncountable historical attratictions preserved by the Historical Patrimony.
The three main islands in the delta of the Capibaribe and Beberibe rivers - Recife, Santo Antônio and Boa Vista - goes along the city known as Recife, a modern capital of 1.500.000 inhabitants. It has this name thanks to the reefs that protect the beachs surrounded by palm trees.
Boa Viagem is the most popular beach. Where you can find the best hotels, coffee pubs and restaurants, besides modern buildings.
The dutch invasion of Recife in 1630 and its 30 years of occupation can still be seen in its architecture, folklore and people. The city of Olinda, a few minutes from Downtown Recife, was declared a World Monument by Unesco. It is one of the best kept historical sites in Brazil.
During the Holy Week, Nova Jerusalém, a small town 185 km from Recife, stages a Pageant of the Passion of Christ. The entire population of the town takes part. It is the world's largest open-air theater and the spectators go along with the performers from one station to the other.

Daily at 8:00 A.M. Approximate duration: 4 1/2 hours.From Igaraçu, birth of the first brazilian church, to Itamaracá, with its tepid water beaches, linked to the continent by a bridge. The main attraction is the Orange Fortress, constructed by the dutch on the XVII century.

Saturdays at 8:00 A.M. Approximate duration: 10 hours.A ride through Vitória de Santo Antão city, where is located the distillery of the "Pitú" sugar-cane spirit. Follows to Caruaru, visit to the open market, the biggest in Brazil. Ends in Nova Jerusalém, where is staged a Pageant of the "Passion of Christ".
> PORTO DE GALINHAS BEACH
Daily at 8:00 A.M.. Approximate duration: 8 hours.Sand beach 64km to the south of Recife. A ride through the sugar cane mills and plantations and crystal clear waters of Porto de Galinhas. Rustic beach resorts invite the visitor to overnight.
